Canada Revokes Antigua & Barbuda’s Visa-Free Access

The government of Canada has revoked visa-free access for citizens of Antigua & Barbuda effective June 27th, 2017. In a media note, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada stated that after monitoring the integrity of the island nation’s travel documents, the government has determined that Antigua & Barbuda no longer meets Canada’s criteria for a visa exemption.

This is unfortunate news as visa exemptions are a testament to positive diplomatic relations between two countries. And while Canada and Antigua & Barbuda do continue to have positive ties, as highlighted in the statement by the Canadian government, we hope that Antigua & Barbuda will aim to regain Canada’s trust in the near future.

The move also decreases Antigua & Barbuda’s visa-free score by 1 to 125. It is currently ranked 26th in the Global Passport Power Rank.

The dual-island nation is a paradise of crystal blue waters, white-sand beaches and beautiful weather. It has attracted many high-profile celebrities who have made the Caribbean country their winter home.
