Canada Extends Visa-Free Travel to Brazil, Bulgaria and Romania

Effective May 1, 2017, Canada is extending visa-free travel to eligible citizens of Brazil, Bulgaria and Romania. Low-risk travellers from those countries who have held a Canadian visa in the last 10 years, or who currently hold a valid US non-immigrant visa, may apply for an electronic travel authorization to fly or transit through Canada. The visa waivers are meant to encourage and increase travel and tourism to Canada.

According to the Government of Canada, it intends to lift all visa requirements for Bulgarians and Romanians by the end of 2017 in an effort to make Canada a more welcoming country and boost the economic benefits for Canadians. If this will be the case, the visa-waiver agreements would boost Bulgaria’s and Romania’s visa-free scores to 144 from 143.
